1.    General Information 

MediaMarktSaturn (hereinafter “MMS”, “we” or “us”) is determined to handle the personal data you shared with us during the recruitment process in a privacy compliant way. 

This privacy notice describes how MMS processes your personal data when you use our career platform. Furthermore, you can also read about your rights under applicable privacy laws, as well as about how you can exercise these rights. 

2.    Who is responsible for processing your personal data? 

The data controller within the meaning of the GDPR is the company mentioned in the relevant job advertisement you have applied to.

3.    What personal data do we collect about you? 

Information collected when creating a profile 

As a rule, it is necessary to create a profile on our career platform to be able to apply to a specific vacancy. For the creation of a profile, the minimum necessary information you must provide is your: 

  • First and last name 
  • Email address  
  • Password 
  • Country of residence 

If you wish to complete your profile, you can voluntarily add other professionally relevant information, such as certificates, skills, etc.  

Additional information required for applying to a specific vacancy 

Once you created your profile, you can apply to a specific vacancy. When doing so, it might be required that you submit additional information relevant only for the position you are applying to, such as work permit related information, necessary language skills, etc. The required information might vary depending on the type of vacancy. 

Quick Apply Function 

To offer you a faster and smoother candidate experience, some vacancies will offer a “QuickApply” function, where you don’t need to go through the above described two-step process, and you can apply directly to a vacancy. In such cases, a profile will be automatically created for you based on the information you have provided in your application. You will later have the opportunity to edit this profile according to your wishes.  

Information collected during the recruitment process 

If we consider you a good match for the vacancy you have applied to and reach out to you to get to know you better, we might collect further information about you during the interview process. This might include information about your previous work experience, your expectations regarding compensation & benefits, etc. In the spirit of data minimization, our recruiters and hiring managers will make sure to only collect information which is relevant for the position you are interviewing for. 

Special categories of data 

As a rule, MMS does not require to collect and process special categories of data (such as religion, ethnicity, health, sexual orientation, etc.) in connection with your application.  

In case you have a disability and you wish to share it with us, you can voluntarily provide that information during the recruitment process. 

Information we collect about you when you use our career portal 

MMS only uses required cookies, which are essential in order to enable you to move around the career portal and use its features. These Cookies are required to enable core site functionality (such as log-in, language preferences, etc.) and are only stored for the duration of your browsing session.  

4.    Legal basis for processing your personal data 

MMS processes your personal data based on the following legal basis:  

  • Local legal provisions, which enable us to process your personal data for employment related purposes (e.g. in Germany, § 26 BDSG) 
  • Our legitimate interest, such as, management, administration and improvement of our recruitment and HR processes, ensuring and improving the online presence of our career platform and identifying the best talent on the job market, to the extent these activities do not prejudice or harm your rights and freedoms (art. 6 1(f) GDPR). 
  • Your consent, if you have provided it for the usage of your personal data for a specific purpose. As an example, this can happen when you decide to receive career related communication from MMS. You are free to withdraw this consent for the future, without giving any reason (art. 6 1(a) GDPR). 
  • Compliance with laws, for example in the cases where employment law or other laws require the processing of your personal information or in cases where we need to answer authority requests in the course of investigation proceedings. (art. 6 1(c) GDPR). 

5.    Why and how do we collect and process your personal data? 


MMS collects and processes your personal data for the following purposes

  • getting in touch with you 
  • recruitment, selection, evaluation, and appointment of new employees, as well as identifying potential candidates on the job market  
  • deploying our career portal and ensuring its technical security 
  • improving our recruitment process and thus, your candidate experience 



Visibility settings 

We will make sure to respect the visibility settings you have chosen on our career portal. If your visibility choice is: 

  • “all MMS recruiters worldwide”, all relevant MMS personnel involved in a recruitment process for vacancies worldwide will have access to the information you have shared with us. In this case, recruiters from all MMS locations might contact you to inform you about relevant job opportunities. 
  • “only MMS recruiters managing jobs I apply to”, only those individuals who are involved in the recruitment process for the job you have applied to have access to your personal information. In this case, you won’t be contacted by recruiters to check whether you are interested in further job opportunities, other than the one you have applied to. 

Please note that you have the possibility to change your visibility setting at any time within your profile. 

Communication about career opportunities 

In case you have opted in to receive job posting notifications or information about career opportunities at the time of your profile creation, you will receive automatic emails about current job offers, campaigns or career events MMS has to offer. You have the right to opt out from receiving such communication anytime, by using the relevant “unsubscribe” button within your candidate profile. 

6.    With whom do we share your personal information?  

MMS might share your personal data with third parties for the above-mentioned purposes, as described below, in accordance with applicable laws, ensuring the highest level of security: 

Affiliates – MMS is a group of entities operating internationally. If necessary, for the purposes explained in this Privacy Notice, MMS will share your personal data with its affiliates.  

Service Providers – Various service providers help us run our overall business. These can be, for example, IT service providers who ensure that our Career Platform runs smoothly, recruitment agencies who help us find the best candidates, consultants who help us improve our processes, etc. When performing their contractual obligations, they might come into contact with your personal data. Therefore, we assess and select them carefully, making sure that we have the necessary contractual agreements in place, in order to protect your personal data. In this context, we may share your personal information outside the EEA only if necessary and after an assessment of reliability of the service provider in question, ensuring that personal information is adequately protected, according to the standards set out in art. 44 GDPR. 

7.    Safeguards for protecting your personal data 

We have implemented appropriate technical, organizational and contractual measures to make sure that your personal data is protected against loss, alteration, or unauthorized access.  

The data you share with us in the context of your application is hosted in the European Union.  

8.    How long do we keep your personal data? 

We will delete your personal data once it is no longer needed. This depends on the purpose for which it was collected for, as well as on the provisions of the applicable local laws.  

In most cases, we will retain your application 6 months after you have received a rejection, whereas your profile will be deleted 6 months after your last log in. Additionally, you have the possibility to delete your profile at any time before the expiry of this period.

9.    Your rights 

Please see below an overview of your rights, as well as information about how to exercise them: 

Right of access - You have the right to request information from us about the personal data we store about you. 

Right to rectification - You have the right to request that the personal data we collected about you be corrected and/or completed. 

Right to erasure - You have the right to request the erasure of your profile at any time, at the indicated email address at the end of this section. You also have the possibility to do this yourself within your candidate profile.  

Please note that your application related personal data will only be deleted at the end of the defined retention period, as referenced under point 8 of this Privacy Notice, automatically. 

Right to restriction of processing – In certain circumstances, outlined in art. 18 GDPR, you have the right to request the restriction of the processing of your personal data. 

Right to object - You have the right to object to the processing if you doubt our legitimate interests for processing your personal information. 

Right to data portability – In certain circumstances outlined in art. 20 GDPR, you have the right to receive your information in a structured, commonly used, machine readable format, whenever technically possible. Additionally, you can request the transmission of your data to another company. 

Right to withdraw consent – In cases where we process your personal data having your consent as legal basis, you have the right to withdraw your consent at any time, without giving a reason. Please note, however, that the lawfulness of the processing of your personal data until the moment of the withdrawal of your consent is not affected.  

Right to lodge a complaint - You have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority in the Member State of your habitual residence, place of work or of an alleged infringement of the GDPR.
